Question re: country music radio formats
Posted by Curious Georgette on September 4, 2020, 2:13 pm
Considering that country/country-western music has been commercially popular for almost a century, and has a broad demographic appeal (at least in certain parts of the USA), why are there no "country oldies" stations similar to "rock/pop oldies" stations? At least in the greater Chicago area?
I would think that there would be an audience for 1950s-80s country hits, just like the pop hits on WRME, etc., and the "dusties" shows on some "urban" stations.
Why does it appear that only "contemporary country" stations make it big around here?
