My guess in music returning to AM,would/could/might be if the station would get an FM translator. IE: 1490 WXXXX, a sports station, now gets an FM translator and they drop sports, for music.
That might make a little sense, but AM....no.
I can remember in 1978 or so, how, (then) 1380 KWK St.Louis, couldn't sell time as they were AM. Then, they got the (full power) FM, in 1979, became "Stereo WK" and the ads/stations numbers went up.
