In Europe, national networks are the norm. I’ve become very familiar with radio specifically in France. There is NRJ (CHR), RFM (AC), Virgin Radio (CHR), Nostalgie (Classic Hits), Rouge (AC), Skyrock (Rhythmic CHR-Urban) and OuiFM (Alternative-Rock) They all have big showcase studios in Paris and with local signals spread around the country. Some (NRJ in specific) have local studios and dedicate time for local shifts. Not all stations in these countries are part of these networks. There are also local ones in most cities, but the national ones tend to be the most popular. Their brand names alone. They’ve been licensed for use by multiple broadcasters. The NRJ Group (NRJ, Rouge, Nostalgie) and Virgin Radio in specific. It’s not always format specific however. Virgin Radio in Italy is Alternative-Rock, in Canada it’s CHR (Bell Media). Bell Media also licensed NRG (Energie) for awhile in Quebec. It was Rock there. Might still be.
