It really depends if Station A makes a lot of money with local ads and a low overhead. Sure they could go national, but at that point, there might be issues with licensing "are they serving their market locally"?
Better to turn off the transmitters and push everyone on an App? That is their ultimate goal.
Another issue is, will sales be conducted locally? Or brokered through the main office?
Is the station very involved with the community? V103 and to a lesser extent is WGCI. African Americans, especially older, need to feel the station is connected to them and the community. KLOVE does have some local shifts in certain markets. If you go national and you have 3 stations running CHR, what differentiate you from the other 2? We seen how KISS off the bird/VT in the first few years with a few local shows worked out for them. They didn't take hold until the went local. Same thing with WZZN/WLS-FM True Oldies. Local appearances especially for high energy formats like CHR, dance, Classic Hip Hop etc... how does the national feed figure in? Just send out minimum wage scabs to give out swag?
Yes times have changed, but I think there are some mitigating circumstances that still need to be resolved. Bottom line, these companies suck. They have over spent, not saved and the workers will pay the price. Not the administration.
