Modern Country sounds like a hybrid of 2000s Post-Grunge (Nickelback, Three Doors Down, etc) with 2000s Hip-Hop elements.
Active Rock is not what it was. Same cookie monster yet generic stuff. Formula rock. I live near WIILís tower. WIIL couldnít care less about Kenosha even though itís been here almost 60 years. All of the money is in Lake County. So you can call WIIL Chicagoís Active Rock station even if it doesnít have full market coverage. The new songs are lacking. If they had gone Active 15-18 years ago I probably would have loved it at the time.
Modern music in general has been taking a nose dive. With the half pennies artists get from Spotify, thereís no drive for creativity.
Alternative and AAA still have decent new songs, but not as many as before. Iím guessing some of that reason is some of those artists are more into their creative sound and care more about music than the money. A lot of Modern Alternative has been sounding like 80s Synth Pop in recent years. It really hit a new peak earlier this decade, figure 2013. Has since gone downhill but they still manage to find and break new songs. Unfortunately Top-40 tends to grab some of the more memorable ones.
