One problem is that the broadcast networks have been doing reality shows for so long now that very few shows get a second life in syndication nowadays. Whatever Netflix/Amazon/etc. produce they tend to keep out of syndication. And if you switch to the streaming model to save some money you eventually learn to subscribe to one service at a time for a few months, then cancel and switch to another for a few months, etc.
Whatever value proposition cable TV has, they undo it all with all the extra fees: the Hi Def fee, the broadcast channel fee, the DVR fee, the digital box fee, etc. Some of the smaller cable operators are switching to an internet-only model because all the work involved in TV feeds isn't worth it anymore as people switch to streaming.
