They had the "AM Only/America's Best Music" format back then and of course my friends didn't exactly want to listen to that music when we were up there partying...lol, but, I always had to grab the walkman and check it out for a little while.
It was a good strong signal, WLS was all but knocked out because of a local on AM 900, that at the time, had a sort of Dells TIS type format with some music thrown in, if I remember correctly.
Then there was "740 AM Stereo WRPQ Baraboo" who's tower with a whopping 6 watts at night, I could see blinking in the night sky less than a mile a way.
They actually had a satelite music format, it was a lite hits type of thing, pretty heavy on the lighter classic rock music you'd hear on The Drive when they first launched, so I actually could get people to listen to that one a bit more.
Totally off subject I know, big shock coming from me, but, I remember WRPQ said the word BARABOO about 3 times in every local spot, every liner etc.
We once played a drinking game, every time they said BARABOO, you had to take a drink. Needless to say I remember feeling pretty good that night, plus I found a way of making my friends listen to an AM music station...lol.
Oh yeah, WAIT, I really like the music they're playing, I'm glad it's back, I'm gonna miss it when it's gone.
