Outside of brokered God radio, the demand is lower to get ones word out. The demand for brokered on AM is a) ethnic and older b) older c) poor/disadvantaged
That is another reason WSBC signs off. There is no demand at night. Not even for a "Rebel Radio" or "Energy" format. When they can be had online, why bother?
As long as they are making money, paying the bills, keep the lights on, or earning a tax break for losses.... nothing else will be sold.
You will see this pace picking up across the US in the next few years. Either this will accelerate the death of AM band, create a new subculture of low powered very local signals (unless the FCC buries these in paperwork and regulations) or create for some awesome DX listening if the computer generated RF hash doesn't drown the signals.
