K-LOVE replaced One On One Sports (the soon to be Sporting News Radio) which had been leasing much of WJKL’s airtime. They wanted a fulltime signal, so they went with 820 WYPA. WYPA stunted with music in the weeks leading up to March 1st. That music was interestingly similar to what eventually became the Adult Hits format.
106.7 The Fish had just launched February 21st after spending a week off off the air for tech work. Came back on the morning it launched with the sound of a clock ticking, I believe it launched at 9AM.
WKSC went on the air at 4PM January 12th, 2001, leading to Energy. (WXXY had already gone Spanish)
The current 92.3 WPWX (Power 92) as well as The Drive also launched within the first few months of 2001. Very active period of time for local radio.
