Jeremy, you are right, current music is crappy. But this is where we diverge. Entercom has flushed B96 down the toilet. The music is not the problem, not for KISS either. Issue is management and the decisions for the station. The launch of JAMS have eaten enough of their 18-34 and 25-54's of the station. B96 is the worst of 3 choices in the CHR arena for Chicago. Now that CHR is more competitive and with those bad decisions, people are fleeing and there just is not room for 3 CHR stations, 2 of them doing the same thing! Perhaps, B96 should change formats or if they are committed they will dump money into it and modify their approach.
The CHR resurgence of 1995 - 2000 was spectacular, almost as big as Z100, 98 WCAU and Hot Hits B96 changed the path in 1982/1983 for artists like Prince, Madonna, Michael Jackson. When Real McCoy released "Another Night", all these Alternatives and Top40/Alternatives had a WTF moment realizing, "Crap, I can't play this huge CHR hit". That started the shift back to Mainstream CHR and helped fuel the music in that direction.
The way radio is today, all the alternative ways to consume media and the changing tastes of the younger generations, this might not be possible anymore.
