Re: School closings in the US
School closings?! Let me tell you my tale of woe, as this brings back "bad" childhood memories, and by bad, I mean the fact the schools where I lived out on Long Island NY almost never closed regardless of how bad the weather was during the winter, because there was no teacher's union, so they got paid only for the days schools were open. We would listen in vain to the radio on school mornings when it was snowing, as they announced all the school closings on Long Island EXCEPT for the schools in the town where I lived! Grrrrr! For example, one nasty winter day during the mid 70s, we had an ice storm. Really bad. Power lines down, etc. We still had to go in to school, sit in the cafeteria while they tried to restore power, and when they couldn't, no lights, no heat, no teach, they just took attendance and sent us all back home again! 🤬!!!!!
