He took his clothes out, and there was still some water left in the bottom of the tub, so I put the dial on Spin and turned it on, to see what happened. At first it made this slapping sound, then more of a squeal. I also started to smell a burning smell. What I am hoping is that it's one of the 2 belts that drive the washer, and nothing more serious, but I won't have time to check it out until later tonight after work. If that is the problem, I already have a parts website that has the belts in stock, plus they have a tutorial video on how to do the repair. I've used the site before to get parts for my dryer.
Both washer and dryer are Maytags, both over 30 years old! I've kept them going by buying parts and repairing them myself. Remember the tv commercials with the lonely Maytag repairman? He'd be REALLY lonely if he was waiting for me to make a service call! 😁
