The page you mention (105), which deals with Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee has indeed a broad white band running vertically but that is (IMHO) purely to hightlight details of a specific section of the painting.
Other than that I think the lay-out of the book, with plenty of room for loads of details and beautifully enlarged parts of various portraits is as it should be.
If you suspect that your copy contains errors (in lay-out) I would recommend you to contact the shop where you purchased it!
Or even the publishing firm, so they are aware of this.
Please let me know how your shop deals with this!
Such a shame if such a treasure is less than perfect .
