Alfonso XIII of neutral Spain did take an interest on the IF destiny.
Would it be so unnacceptable for them to live in sunny Spain on the opposite side of Europe ?
Both Alexandra and VE were grand-daughters of Queen Victoria. Despite the age gap of almost 20 years, and the fact that each one married on Europe extremes, did they ever meet at any family reunions ? Did they have a good relation.
One has a lot of info on the good relations between the Russian IF and the UK, Dk and Greek RFs, the not so good relations with the Kaiser, but hardly nothing about other RH namely the catholic ones such as Austria or Spain, which might have been their salvation way out.
This is an interesting book that shows how complex matters were when it came to rescuing the Tsar and his family. Lots of plots, double-dealings and self-serving plans - all of which came to nothing. Perhaps the biggest problem was the Tsar himself and his history as an incompetent ruler, something I sense the author prefers to avoid really confronting. I feel the real reason all the plots and plans came to nothing was because of one person, the Tsar. No-one wanted to be associated with him and for what he stood for. However, his brutal execution along with his family is still inexcusable.
