Foreword by HRH The Duke of Gloucester
A WALK FOR THE QUEEN tells the story of the Jubilee Walkway and the Jubilee Greenway from its inception in the year of The Queen’s Silver Jubilee.
This lively book is a superbly illustrated portrait of London that will surprise even those most familiar with the capital city. It tells the story of how these routes were created, and all the ups and downs of running a trust for 35 years, not least the tragic murder of the Honorary Secretary in 1985.
The book is written by the Chairman, Hugo Vickers, who has known the Walkway since its inception.
As a young man he walked the course before the markers were in the ground and assisted with the editing and distribution of the first guide book, written by Max Nicholson.
In writing this, he has had access to all the trust’s files, supplementing this with his own memories and those of the other key figures.
The book will prove an indispensable handbook to others embarking on such missions.
A WALK FOR THE QUEEN is published by the Dovecote Press at £15.
Copies available from booksales@wyeford.co.uk and many good bookshops.
