If you enjoy reading about the personal and human side of French royals of the 18th century you will greatly enjoy this reprinted book. It is the story of Françoise Chalus (1734 - 1821)wife Jean-François Comte de Narbonne Lara and later created a duchess. She was lady in waiting to first, The Duchess of Parma (Princess Elisabeth, daughter of Louis XV) and finally to his other two daughters Adelaide and Victoire, known as Mesdames. The Mesdames were devoted to their servants as much as to their own family.
The duchess was a devoted servant and friend to the princesses for almost 40 years and went into exile with them before the Reign of Terror started.
