Yesterday I was pleasantly surprised to find a beautiful invitation in my mailbox for a very special booklaunch in Denmark on October 15!

On that day Art Historian Thyge Christian Fønss will show us all what he has been working on for quite some time and which is a very special book that will guide us through 40 years of extremely exciting Danish art history with an international perspective !!


Her Majesty Margrethe II is the Danish regent who has been most numerously portrayed by artists, and
in contrast to her predecessors, she has always perceived the art of portraits and its performers with great interest and involvement.
In 1972, the art of portraiture was considered anachronistic and out of touch with the avant-garde.
From the beginning, Queen Margrethe II supported new and experimenting portrait artists, and now, 40 years later, she has been painted by such internationally renowned artists as Pietro Annigoni and Andy Warhol, as well as Danish artists as Niels Strøbek, Preben Hornung and Thomas Kluge – artists, whose careers on multiple occasions were themselves initially kickstarted by her attention.
To this date, more than 100 people have contributed with informations regarding the book – artists and their relatives, the royal family itself, the owners and contractors of the portraits, as well as other experts who possess knowledge of the creation of the individual pieces
