I will always cherish the time I spent with deBobwan. He was an amazing man who somehow saw something of value in me and offered me more than a paycheck. His friendship was genuine and I also learned a lot from him - stuff like how to properly roll up a hundred dollar bill to get a good snort through it. He was a fun guy to be around and I do miss him. I've saved a phone message from him when he called me to wish me "happy birthday" a few years ago. And since yesterday was my 78th, I played that recording back just for the fun of hearing his voice again.
I will add one thing in all honesty - I think he was bamboozled into leasing the Kingston Trio brand to the present group of imposters. In all my years with the Trio, it was well known and often stated by Bob that when he retired, the KT would go to George. I truly think that George would have maintained the legitimacy of the group had he been allowed to bid on the lease. I'm sure he could have amassed enough financial support to challenge what The Lyin' Sonsa-B's offered. But that was George's fork in the road and hope he's recovered from his disappointment.
