In the process of writing my book I've been searching for photos that I want to include in the final publication. This has led me to dig into boxes of things that I've collected over the years and stored, thinking it might have value at some point. Last week I went through reams of newspaper articles, concert programs and other items related to gigs I've done over the years. Realizing that saving newspaper ads for upcoming Kingston Trio shows in cities all over the country was pointless, I ended up dumping out about 75 pounds of paper.
I spent hours going through this stuff before deciding to trash it, and in the process I've whittled my collection down to a somewhat more reasonable amount of material that still has some relevance to me. And since I don't need duplicate copies of those things, I have some left-overs that may have value to Kingston Trio fans and collectors. So I'm going to advertise what I have in the event someone would like to take some of it off my hands.
One very rare item I have is a bumper sticker (or more appropriately, a guitar case sticker) Bob Shane had produced back in 1986. There's a drawing of a hand with legs and the middle finger is extended. The text says: The Kingston Trio "86 #### America Tour" We're the Kingston Trio KISS OUR ASS!
Apparently as a group we had a collective ass. Anyway, I'm open to taking bids on that one-of-a-kind item. Other items are probably not as valuable but may be of interest to someone other than myself. These include several copies of the concert program for our appearance at Bob's 50th high school reunion at Punahou School in 2002, multiple copies of a postcard with some cool artwork advertising a December 29, 2000 concert in Fairfield, California, 3x5 hand-outs promoting our engagement at the Venetian Room at San Francisco's Fairmont Hotel, similar hand-outs for a tour we did with Glenn Yarbrough called The Folk Reunion, several copies of the program book for the 16th Annual Folk Music Association benefit weekend at the Birchmere in 2001 (honoring John Stewart) and a single copy of the program book for the Kingston Trio 45 year tribute show at the Birchmere in 2002. Additionally I have a stack of 8.5 x 11 handouts advertising a show at the Ramada Express in Laughlin, Nevada, a stack of concert programs from our show for the Florida Association of Realtors in 1988 (mostly ads), a few concert posters and a bunch of old promo pictures.
Since all these items are in good condition I saved them from the rubbish pile in case they might be of interest to anyone.
I have yet to go through my box of Brothers Four memorabilia, so there may be some cast-offs coming soon from that collection as well. Anyway, I thought I'd put this info out for your consideration. If anyone would like to see any of this material I'm happy to scan it and send it by email - I wouldn't know how to display any of it here on this message board.
OK, I have three more chapters to finish and then my book goes to the publisher for editing. So stand by - it's coming soon.
