So to answer the other part of your question - I don't remember ever doing a lip-sync performance for TV. We were pretty easy to mic up for TV, so there really was no excuse for not playing live. Of course, that led to some interesting moments sometimes.
We played Ralph Emory's "Nashville Now" show several times, and on one performance we programmed "The Reverend Mr. Black." The production crew asked if we wanted the lyrics on teleprompter and George, who had the lead on that one, said, "Oh no - we've done this song a zillion times - we don't need no stinkin' teleprompter."
So when it came time for us to do our bit - live - national TV - even broadcast to our troops overseas - George proceeded to totally forget the lyrics. He got so flustered that he finally just started telling some made-up version of the story - no attempt to rhyme it or anything - just one of those "I've stepped in it now" moments. And once yer in you gotta make it to the other side. I wonder if I have that on video somewhere - I'd like to relive how we got thru that one.
So - no lip-sync - but maybe a teleprompter next time.
