OK, this show was towards the end of my days as a Trio member - in fact I think it was my second-to-last show - and as you can tell in some of these clips, I wasn't a happy camper that day. I had been bumped from my flight the night before at some interim point (Chicago? St. Louis? I don't recall) and had to wait about 6 hours for another connection to wherever this show was in Nude Hampster, arriving well after midnight, to the dismay of my local ride. To top that off, my guitar was lost in transit and I had to borrow that guitar I'm playing in these clips. I thought this was my old Takamine (looks like it) but it was a loaner, I now recall.
I had already gotten my pink slip and was just filling out my obligations. I wasn't speaking with George and Bill at all - and I really didn't want to be there. I remember Tommy and Dick (Smothers) consoling me at the hotel bar after the show - they were very sorry that I was leaving the Trio.
I haven't watched all of these clips yet (I will sometime) but the one that really gets my goat is "Scotch & Soda". Notice Zorn fumbling with the chords in the intro. And then - OMG - does Shane really allow him to sing this song still? What a wreck! No soul to it at all. You can tell by my lack of enthusiasm that I can't wait for this to be over.
I appreciate your kind review of the show, altho Suzy Q would beg to differ with you. That little twit (hope I'm not outa line) - I always was nice to her but she has such a crush on George that I was dog meat in her eyes. Whatever! (MTABob - please keep my comments here this time - I don't want to upset the Crossroads clan.) (Oh, maybe I already did - couldn't resist posting there.)
I'm glad to know about this stuff. I'll take time later to wade thru it all. My favorite clip in this thread was the one Rick Daly posted of the Japanese Trio-ettes. Very cute!
