I was performing a couple times a month at a little restaurant in Lakewood when I wrote the song. It had played on a local talk radio program hosted by Peter Boyles and I started attracting an audience that identified with my viewpoint. Basically the song is a spoof, asking why I can't get into Mexico the same way we allow immigrants to flow unchecked our way across the border.
I had requests to play this song every time I performed at this restaurant, and oddly, the illegal kitchen help actually like the song. A flaming liberal school-teacher who would bring his Starbucks coffee in and take up space without ever ordering anything complained to the management about me and they decided to clip my wings over it. This teacher apparently threatened to arrange for the restaurant's catering contract with the school district to be cancelled if they allowed me to perform the song. This teacher also took the issue into his classroom, claiming that I was a racist. One of his students contacted me with that info.
When the restaurant fired me, Peter Boyles went ballistic over it and it became a national issue. I got calls from conservative talk shows all over the country to talk about my mistreatment and I sold downloads of the song to raise money for a couple of border agents who had been fired for illegitimate reasons at the time.
I've billed myself as the nation's only conservative protest singer and I've continued to write polical commentary-type songs since.
I may go on a hunt for threads related to this incident on this message board. It was several years ago, but I may be able to find it back on page two or three.
