Re: Question For All. Definition of a Folk Singer
All this begs the question: Can any folk group true to the definition of folk music feature a conga drum, or a saw for that matter ( just kidding Bob)? Shouldn't all traditional folk groups contain an auto-harp or a dulcimer or even a fiddle? Traditional folk songs were handed down ( then tweaked and copyrighted by the Kingston Trio) from generation to generation. That was the original definition, not something written by the singer that kind of sounded folkish. Many of those songs will become folk songs in future generations as they are handed down ( the lone exception will be 50 Cents version of Greenback Dollar and maybe Metallica's version of Whiskey In The Jar [an actual recording]. Just some rambling thoughts.
