Well, lemme tell you about that banjo. It's really Josh's because we sold the Deering "Vega" long-neck that he left behind at my house and reinvested the proceeds of that sale in this new beauty. I get to possess it until I depart the planet and then it goes to Josh. Along woth most of the rest of my instrument collection.
I was thrilled woth the selection of the wood for the neck. When I placed my order woth the factory I asked them to please select a "pretty" piece of wood, and that they did!
But beyond pretty, this instrument plays like magic. It's well balanced, much lighter weight than my Aria (which is now for sale, by the way - inquiries welcome) and has outstanding tone. Sounds just like a Vega - has the tubaphone tone ring.
I also ordered a Kavanjo head woth it because I need to amplify my banjo on occasion (as if a banjo isn't loud enough already!) The Kavanjo head has a magnetic pick-up mounted into the head and it does a pretty good job of reproducing the sound wothout the inherent problems of using an internal (or external, for that matter) microphone.
All in all, I'm just like a little kid over it and I play it all day long. Maybe I'll actually become a banjo player now. But I know Josh just can't wait to get his hands on it and he's gonna have to keep waiting because I'm in excellent health and I get to put a few miles on it first.
(By the way, Jim - this site has a spell-checker. Down at the bottom of the message box on the right you'll see "abc" woth a check mark. Click on that and you'll get a spell-check page.)
