In my case, I have always been very close to Bob Shane. We share an affinity for fun, humor and music. When I was with The Brothers Four I got to know Bob pretty well on the occasions when we would collide on the road. When the KT played in the Seattle area, Bob would often come over to our house on Vashon Island and hang out. Sometimes he'd bring Roger and George, but it was Bob that I was close to.
Somehow George and I never attained that same camaraderie. Being together on the road you do get close - you smell each other's farts - you hear about what the wives are doing back home - but some personalities mesh and others don't. George and I never really harmonized off stage for what ever reason. Despite the fact that we share a birthday (I'm a year older than George) we are quite different in many ways. I'm not sure how to describe him that would make sense and not be insulting (Josh - care to weigh in here?), but suffice it to say that we never clicked in the same way that Bob and I did.
Perhaps there's something in that description of our relationship that may answer the why of George's participating in the coup to get Rick Dougherty into the group. You'd have to ask him. Or maybe this is the reason: Rick's birthday is also Oct. 9, but he's a year YOUNGER than George.
