To answer your question, Bob Flick has been in the recording business most of his life. His day job was producing records and commercials.
As you mentioned, Dick Foley did a stint on a Seattle TV station - can't recall the station letters. He had kind of local "Today Show" type of format. He had people come on that he'd interview about different things. He had me on his show a couple times to play music. I remember one of those times quite well - his main guest that day was Red Skelton. "God bless!"
Before that, though, Dick and John Paine opened Brothers Four Music in downtown Seattle. They sold guitars, banjos, pianos and related stuff. Their partner in that business was the son of my high school band teacher at Medford High. His name was Irv Myrick - can't remember the son's name. I don't recall John ever having any other day job.
For awhile, Bob, Dick, John and (I think) Mike were partners with Jerry Dennon in ownership of a radio station in Seaside, Oregon. I wouldn't call it a day job - they were just investors.
I've had several day jobs over the years. I worked in a local music store in Eugene when I was living there. Then, when I moved to Vashon Island, I worked for a time as the bookkeeper (and sometimes truck driver) for LS Cedar Company.
When I moved to Denver I worked in my wife, Meri's printing company doing artwork, typesetting and making photo copies for customers. Then we bought a shutter company and I worked for several years installing shutters and blinds. We also owned a shipping & packaging company and I worked there part-time packing things for shipping and working the customer counter.
Also, during nearly every period of my life I've taught guitar, ukulele and banjo. Most recently, I was teaching out of our home in Golden, Colorado. I really enjoy teaching and I hope I can find a way to get that going again out here in Oregon.
I don't know a lot about Mike Kirkland. He had a lot of personal problems for awhile. He left the Brothers Four because he'd developed nodes on his vocal cords and couldn't sing. As I recall, he also had a child that died at a very early age. I believe he went into some kind of counseling after that. Drug and alcohol counseling as I recall. I only met him once briefly.
