Number one on my list would be a Deering Vega #2 banjo. I've been studying the Deering line a lot lately and, although I've never played one of these models, it looks to be exactly what I'm looking for in an all-round banjo for my purposes. Now, I should mention that I'll be needing a couple of custom modifications, those being a Shubb 5-th string capo and Kavanjo pick-up system. Touted in the Deering catalog as the lastest greatest break-thru in banjo amplification, this is a magnetic humbucking pickup suspended from a customized mylar head. We're looking at right around $4300 retail for this package, but mention my name when you order and I'm sure Greg will give you a Kingston Trio discount.
OK, so 4 grand is a little out of your price range, next on my wish list would be the Animusic 2-DVD combo ($27.75) at http://animusic.com If you haven't experienced this incredible computer-music-video concoction you need to check it out. If I'm ever stuck in a bed in a rest home in my old age I want to be able to watch this endlessly. Fascinating stuff.
OK, OK, still too steep for ya? Alrighty, then - I'll settle for any Arturo Fuente cigar. I prefer the Short Story with a light wrapper, but they also make a medium-sized cigar that's a pleasant smoke as well. Gotta be a light wrapper, though - the dark ones are just a little bitter to my taste.
Still not in your budget? OK, I'll settle for hugs.
