Re: Banjo Bands"
Four years ago, the Atlanta Braves sponsered a Guinness Book of Records event at Turner Field. The event: the most number of banjos playing 'Foggy Mountain Breakdown'. Between four and five hundred banjo players gathered in an under ground staging area and tuned up ( that was interesting) then recieved instructions. We entered the field about 45 minuets before game time ( maybe a thousand fans at most that early) and we played a 4 minute version of the song started by (are you ready for this) Earl Scruggs. He wasn't down on the field with us but stayed in the press box and used the PA sytem. I actually took a solo, unfortunately the other 499 guys wouldn't tone down so nobody knew it.I was also the only one there with a Seeger Vega. Bluegrass guys really don't appreciate long-neck banjos as they aren't 'tradional' so I was pretty much ignored.I suggested we open with 'Tom Dooley'. Bluegrass guys also don't have much of a sense of humour either. I also found out most bluegrass banjo players are single. Who would have thought?
