But you did ask for suggestions...
I like the selections in the "green" medley.
Everything in your explanation of choice and sequence makes sense, and I've seen you perform enough times to appreciate how it works. So it comes down, really, to a matter of preference.
For example, I think the Phil Ochs tune "Power and Glory" is one of the greatest patriotic songs ever written. Even with its harsh realities of poverty and prison, it reminds us all that the country is no more than what its people make it.
Given that, I think it fits in your patriotic medley. I'd lose "God Bless America" since "God Bless the USA" has the same sentiment, is more contemporary, and is strong enough to be the closer.
My mind is blanking on folk songs about cities, other than the New Christy Minstrels' "Denver," which always seemed to me to be an up-tempo crowd pleaser. But "cities" might be a viable medley theme.
I also think songs about ships evoke powerful imagery, and stuff like "Golden Vanity," "Sloop John B" and "What Do We Do with a Drunken Sailor" can easily follow "If I Had a Ship" as the opener. Could be as effective as your train song medley.
Another song that deserves to live on, and you could do justice to, is John Stewart's "East of Denver."
Good topic, Bob. I hope a few more friends drop by and weigh in with their perspectives.
