A few years ago I wrote a song about a close friend and fellow performer who had passed away, and I think the lyrics are appropriate now. Here's the second verse and chorus:

I REMEMBER HOW I CRIED
THE NITE I HEARD THE NEWS
I GUESS I NEVER THOUGHT THAT HE'D BE GONE
THEY SAY EVERY DAY'S A GAMBLE,
YOU MIGHT WIN OR YOU MIGHT LOSE
BUT EITHER WAY YA GOTTA CARRY ON
NOW JOHNNY'S WITH THE ANGELS
ON THAT STAGE IN THE SKY
DOIN' WHAT HE ALWAYS LOVE TO DO
& WHEN IT'S SHOW TIME YOU CAN FIND HIM
IN THAT SWEET BYE & BYE
& SOMEDAY MAYBE I'LL BE UP THERE TOO
& WE'LL SING
SONGS ABOUT LIFE SONGS ABOUT LOVE
SONGS ABOUT LIQUOR IN LITTLE BROWN JUGS
SONGS THAT LAUGH & SONGS THAT CRY
SINGIN' SONGS THAT NEVER DIE

Indeed, I hope John Stewart's music will live on forever. He wrote the truth about so many things.
