I have an interview scheduled this coming Tuesday morning with Dave Chaffin on KGAB talk (duh!) radio in Cheyenne, WY. It will be between 7:30 and 8:00 AM Mountain Standard Time. If you're within earshot of the Cheyenne they air at 650 AM. Otherwise listen on the internet by going to www.kgab.com and clicking on the Listen Live tab. I'll also be doing an interview within the next couple weeks with Rollye James. She's syndicated all over the country, as well as on XM radio. I'll let you know what that gets scheduled. Check out Rollye at www.rollye.net. You can also hear my interview with Mike Kavanagh on WSB Radio in Atlanta by going back to my Home page and clicking on the Radio Stations information at the bottom of the page. When that page comes up, scroll down below the WSB logo and a little above the flag map of the US and you'll see a button to "click here to listen to Bob's interview..." So far the reaction I've had to this song, with the exception of Ingrid and three other people (and one of those has since come around to liking it) has been overwhelmingly positive! The song is a satire, as you said. The more I've thought about the negative reactions I've received the more I've come to believe that those people are somehow predisposed to think that anyone who is against a flat-out open border is a racist. Wow! I've tried very hard to articulate in my posts above that I most certainly am not! I only want to preserve our American way of life and have us live by the laws that we've established to keep that in check. We've already lost the battle to remain a mono-lingual nation. Just about every grocery store, Walmart, Home Depot and telephone menu offers a choice between English (i.e. Americanese) and Spanish (i.e. Latin-Americanese). It's sad to admit that this will probably never change - we're stuck with it, and it's bound to get to the point where Spanish will be a required language. To those who would shout "racist" at those remarks, let me just say that I would feel a whole lot better about that if the options were not limited to just those two languages. We should add, "press 3 for Vietnamese, press 4 for Arabic, press 5 for Russian", etc. You can't call me racist if I advocate for all of that over a Spanish only choice. It's a matter of what's fair if you're going to open the door. But the invasion has a very firm footing. There are businesses in Denver now that accept pesos for payment. One day I called about 12 governmental agencies, from the IRS to the state department of revenue to the City of Lakewood department of revenue to the Federal Reserve bank (one kept referring me on to the next) and none of these agencies knew the answer to the question: "Are pesos legal tender in the U.S.?" There's a little note on our paper money that says, "THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE." But none of our government agencies could tell me if pesos are also legal tender. If we don't stop it now we'll be sorting pesos among our loose change in the future. I remember when I was a kid in Spokane we used to get Canadian coins in our change all the time, but somehow I seem to remember some subsequent ban on the circulation of Canadian coinage. Anybody know about that? I'm not a skin-head. I'm just a regular American citizen. I love Jews and African-Americans, Asians, Arabs, Vulcans and any other race of people you can name. I believe all humans have a right to live a good life. I do what I can to share what I have with other people. I'm sure my mother sent all the food I refused to eat to the starving children in China. But this is America. We are a unique nation with an identity that is fast eroding in favor of a Latino identity. I just strongly believe that if you come to live in America you should become an American. The way things are going now, because we're so damned POLITICALLY CORRECT that we can't stand up and say "I'm proud to be an American and I'm proud to wave the Red, White and Blue and anyone who is not proud of that should go back to where they came from." That's not racism. If national pride is a bad thing, then I stand accused and condemned. Our borders are wide open right now. Sure, lot's of poor yet honorable people are flocking here illegally to make a better life for themselves, but we are also allowing criminals and possibly even political terrorists to enter unchecked. It's a drain on our economy, it's a danger to our national security and it's changing this country in ways that I honestly hate to see. I hope I have energy to continue my debate with Ingrid, because I'm RIGHT and I need her to see that and understand why I'm right. How she sees anything in my song other than a satirical look at a bad situation is a total mystery to me. I guess the question I need to pose to those who react as Ingrid did to my song is: "Do you approve of making our country a bi-lingual nation? Should we require all citizens, especially school children, to learn both Americanese and Latin-Americanese? Should we add the Mexican flag to our flag-poles, maybe even putting it at the top with the American flag upside down below, as some protesters in California did at a school there? Should we allow pesos to filter into our monetary system? Should we just lay down and allow this invasion to take place and say - oh, well, I remember American back in the good old days when our national anthem was sung in Americanese rather than in Spanish?" Ingrid, how do you answer these questions? Am I really being racist, mean-spirited and ignorant? I don't think so. Ooops! Almost lost my self-control there! One last comment - this song, "Can You Get Me In?" is getting airplay on talk radio exclusively at this point. I'm hoping that some country stations will jump on it, but at this point it's just talk radio. Can anybody tell me if there's ever been a song before that's been broken as a "hit" in this venue? I think it's rather unique!
