What Happens Next - Part 3

Last Time:

The first thing Nora saw was a huge fireplace surrounded by windows that looked out into the woods. Nora wandered around while Bo got a fire going in the fireplace. She sat down in a wonderfully cushy couch as the flames grew. "I might never leave."

Bo sat down next to her and watched the flames. She turned to him. "So what now??"

Bo looked at her. "Are you sure you're feeling okay? The baby okay?"

Nora nodded slowly. "I'm fine. Really."

Bo took a deep breath and stared into the fire. "It’s been a hell of a day huh? A hell of a couple of weeks."

Nora started to cry softly. "I never, ever, ever meant to hurt you."

Bo took her hand in his. "I know. I really truly know that. It all has just been a shock. Six weeks ago I was the happiest man in the world. I loved you. I loved this baby. I couldn't imagine anything better in my life. Then…."

"Then in five minutes I ruined everything. I know I wasn't thinking straight. I was so afraid that you were going to die. That I would lose you forever." Nora rubbed her belly. "I thought having a baby was the only way to save you. I am so sorry. "

Bo laid his hand on top of hers as she rested it on her belly. "I forgive you. I understand what was going through your mind." Bo kissed the top of her head. "One thing in all of this hasn't changed. I still love you." Nora turned and looked at him. "I don't think I could ever stop loving you. When I held you today in the park, I didn't want to let go."

"I didn't want you to let me go either. I loved the feeling of your arms around me. I knew I was safe. That everything would be okay." Nora stopped. "Will everything be okay?"

Bo was quiet for a bit. "Honestly…I'm not sure." Nora looked away and the tears fell again. "Honey, please don't cry. I'm just trying to be open with you. Am I 100% sure that everything will be okay? No of course not. But I want to try."

"You do?" Nora wiped the tears from her face.

Bo wrapped his arm around her. "Of course I do. I miss you. I miss us. I miss this baby. But this won't be easy for me. You need to understand that. Being a father to another man's baby might be incredibly hard at first." Nora looked away. "But I look at Clint and how much he loves Kevin and Joey. Those are his sons - blood or not. Doug and Annie? Annie loves those girls because they are a part of Doug, not because she gave birth to them. I'm pretty sure I can love this baby. I love its mother. How can I not love him or her too."

Nora kissed him gently. "Thank you for loving me. For loving us."

Bo kissed her back a bit more passionately. He rested his forehead against hers. "I'm glad we came here. We can try and figure this out." Bo's phone rang. They groaned in unison. Bo looked at the caller ID. "It's John." Bo answered "Buchanan."

"Bo…I know you didn't want to be disturbed but I wanted to give you an update on Nora's mugging."

"It's okay. What have you found out?'

"As you know, we've been scouring the pawn shops for Nora's ring. Nothing has come up. But we'll keep looking."

"You might want to check with Donny Morelli over at Lake Street Pawnshop. He might not have seen it but he can get the word out to other shops here in town and around PA. Tell him it's a personal favor for me."

"I will. We also checked closer into Ramirez. You were right about his past. He has deep ties to the LaSalle family."

"What do we know about them?"

"They're based out of Detroit. Seem to be involved in drug trafficking mostly but there are other allegations of racketeering, gambling, prostitution. You know…the mob gambit of crimes. Rumor is that they've started expanding - Minneapolis, Chicago, Philly. It looks like they may be trying to develop a base of operations here in Llanview."

"What about Ramirez's role in the family?"

"We don't have a lot of information yet but we're still looking. I have some calls into the FBI to see what they might know. Do you want me to call Nora to see if she has some insights into the LaSalles?"

Bo glanced at Nora. "I'll take care of that John. I'll let you know if she has anything to add. Give me a call tomorrow and we can compare notes."

"Will do boss." Bo hung up the phone.

"What did they find out?"

"It seems Ramirez has ties to the LaSalle family out of Detroit. Does that ring a bell? Maybe have a client that's affiliated with them?"

Nora shook her head. "That doesn't sound familiar to me at all. But I can scour my files when we get back on Monday. Do you think this has to do with a past client?"

Bo shrugged his shoulders. "I'm not sure but it's a logical place to start."

They sat quietly for a bit. Nora rested her head on Bo's shoulder. Bo looked over and noticed that she was dozing. He smiled to himself. What a perfect end to this bad day. Who would have guessed. Bo kissed the top of her head. "Come on Red. Time for bed."

Nora glanced up at him. "Bed?"

Bo smiled that Bo smile of his. "Bed…as in sleep. You in one room and me in another." Nora looked disappointed. "Hey it's not that I don't want to be with you. I do. Tonight I think we just need to take it slow. To make sure. Besides…I think we both need the sleep."

Nora smiled and nodded. "I love you."

"I love you too Red."

I LOVE IT! So glad Bo is trying to get past his anger and realizes he still loves and needs Nora. I like the direction you're taking this investigation too. Can't wait for the next chapter!
