Last Time:
Nora walked into the house and almost into Asa. "Asa….is Bo here yet?"
"I don't think so. What would he be doing here?"
"I think I have a lead on my stalker."
"What kind of lead?"
"Sam was a college roommate with a Scott Lasalle. They're the mob family that that my stalker worked for."
"That low down Rappascum. I should have killed him the first time I…."
"The first time what Asa?"
Both Nora and Asa spun around at the voice. "Sam."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Asa stared at Sam. "I should have killed you the first time you walked into our lives. You've been nothing but a low-down snake in the grass."
Sam laughed out loud. "That's pretty big talk for you old man."
Asa took a step closer and Sam stepped back. Nora touched Asa's arm. "Asa. Please. He's not worth it." She turned to Sam. "What are you doing here?"
"I came to see you and the baby. To make sure you're all right."
"We are fine. You can leave now."
"I don't get any more than 'we're fine?' This is my child we're talking about."
Nora sighed. "While you may be the sperm donor for this child, you are not it's father. Bo is the real father."
"What the hell are you talking about? He wants nothing to do with this baby."
Nora shook her head. "That's not true. He wants to raise this child as his own."
"And I have no say in this?"
"No Sam. You have no say. You never had any say. Even if Bo didn't want this baby, you would not have been involved. Going to you was the hugest mistake of my life. And allowing you to have anything to do with this baby would have just compounded the error."
"You b###h."
That was all it took for Asa to act. As Asa moved in front of Nora, Sam pulled a gun and pointed it at them both. "Do not even think about it old man. Don't think I won't do it."
Asa moved Nora completely behind him. There was no way he was going to let her get harmed. "Sam…just put the gun down. You don't want to hurt anyone."
Sam chuckled. "I wouldn't be too sure of that Asa. I wouldn't mind knocking you down a notch or two. But I just want Nora and the baby. She comes with me and no one gets hurt."
"That's not going to happen."
Nora spoke up. "If I leave with you, you promise that no one will be hurt?"
Asa turned and looked at her. "Honey, I'm not going to let you go with him. Bo would never forgive me."
"It's okay Asa. I'll be okay. I'm sure Sam won't hurt me. Right Sam?"
Sam lowered the gun. "I could never hurt you."
Asa took advantage of the distraction and lunged at Sam. Sam slammed the gun butt against Asa's head. He fell to the ground. Nora attempted to kneel down next to him but Sam grabbed her arm. "Let him die. You're coming with me."
"I don't think so Sam." Sam turned around to see Bo with a gun pointed at his head. "Drop your gun right now otherwise I will put a bullet between your eyes."
Sam looked like he was going to tempt fate but he dropped the gun. Bo instantly cuffed him and handed him off to one of his officers that was standing behind him. "Get him out of here."
Bo kneeled down next to Nora as she cradled Asa's head in her lap. He yelled "get the EMTs in here now." Another officer bolted to the door. "Hang in there Pa."
Asa stirred. "I'll be fine boy. I've been hit by better men than Rappascum and lived to talk about it." Both Bo and Nora smiled. The EMTs got him onto a stretcher.
"We'll be right behind you Pa."
"No. I want you downtown putting that SOB in jail. Call Renee at the Palace. She can come and sit with me."
Bo watched as the EMTs loaded Asa into the ambulance. He turned back to Nora and opened his arms wide. She walked into them and allowed him to hold her close. They stood there quietly for a minute. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." Bo looked at her skeptically. "Really…I'm fine. And much better being in your arms."
"What was the lead you got on your case?"
"Sam and Scott LaSalle were college roommates. I guess there's no doubt now that he was behind the attack in the park."
Bo shook his head. "But why? It makes no sense."
"I guess we'll find out when you question him. I want to be there."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hank looked over at Bo as he tapped his pen on the table. "I am letting you sit in here as a courtesy. I don't want you saying a thing unless I ask you. Understand?"
Bo nodded. "I understand. I just want answers."
"I know. We'll get them."
One of Bo's officers led a handcuffed Sam into the interrogation room. Sam glared at Bo. "What the hell is he doing here?"
Hank remained calm. "I asked him to be here. Now sit down. I understand that you waived your right to an attorney?"
Sam sat down with a smug look on his face. He licked his lips. "I can represent myself. You have nothing on me. I didn't do anything to Nora."
Hank smiled. "While that may be true right at this minute, I do have enough to hold you and convict you of breaking and entering and assault. I'm sure Asa will be more than willing to testify against you."
"That son of a b###h. I should have shot him when I had the chance."
Hank rearranged some papers. "Why did you hire Paul Ramirez to assault Nora?"
Sam remained silent.
"So how long have you known Scott LaSalle?"
"Who? I don't know what you're talking about."
"Well according to your son, Scott was your college roommate for four years. It also appears that he was your best man when you got married. Any of that ringing a bell?" Sam squirmed in his seat but didn't say anything. "Well that's okay." Hank took a paper from his file. "Mr. LaSalle was more than willing to give us a statement."
"He did what? That son of…. I want to make a deal."
Hank chuckled. "It might be a little late for that but what do you have to offer?"
"I'll give you information on LaSalle's mob connections in return for a reduced sentence."
"You need to tell me everything about Ramirez as well and we will have a deal."
Sam looked venomously at Bo. "Fine."
"Let's start with Ramirez. I'm sure the FBI will want to sit in on our discussions regarding LaSalle."
Sam looked at his hands. "I hired Ramirez to attack Nora in order to win her completely. I was supposed to be the one to save her in the park. I was going to beat off her attacker. But Will held me up with some nonsense of his. When I arrived at the park, there she was in Bo's arms. Not mine."
Hank could feel Bo tense up next to him but he continued. "Why did you think you needed to win Nora? She was having your child. You would have been in her life."
Sam shook his head. " I wanted her to feel obligated to me for saving her life." He took a breath. "I knew she would figure out soon enough that the baby wasn't mine and she would never talk to me again."
Bo stood up and pushed his chair back. "What the hell did you just say?"
"The baby is yours. I knew all along. I've been shooting blanks for a long time. Hell…I'm not even sure that Will and Jen are my flesh and blood. Lindsay says they are but can you believe her?"
Bo sat down in shock. "The baby is mine." Bo turned and smiled at Hank.
"Why don't we take a break and wait for the FBI to show up. Officer - take Mr. Rappaport back to the holding cell."
The officer helped Sam out of his chair. Sam turned back to Bo. "You don't deserve her Buchanan. She would have been happy with me."
Bo remained silent until the door closed behind Sam. He couldn't stop smiling. "I need to find Nora."
"I'm pretty sure she heard it all. She was watching from behind the mirror."
Bo walked out of the interrogation room and into the viewing room. Nora turned towards him with tears in her eyes. He pulled her close and held on for dear life. "I love you so much."
Nora kissed him gently. "I love you too Bo. I always have and I always will."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Later that week Bo is nervously pacing in the doctor's office. "When will she be here?"
Nora took his hand. "They said Dr. Conklin would be in here at 10:00. Just be patient."
Bo kissed her gently. He pulled back when he heard the door open. Dr. Conklin walked in with a smile on her face. "Well Bo…it's wonderful to see you here. Nora how are you feeling? I read about what happened."
"I'm fine. The baby's been fine too. Bo is taking good care of us. We're just ready to find out what we're having."
"I'm sure you are." Dr. Conklin raised the gown. "Be prepared. This gel can be a little cold." She squirted the gel and Nora jumped in surprise. "You okay?" Nora nodded. Dr. Conklin guided the transducer over Nora's belly searching for a heartbeat. All of a sudden the room echoed with a rapid beating. "Well there you are baby Buchanan. Let's take a look." The baby's image appeared on the screen. Both Bo and Nora were transfixed as they held hands, watching the monitor. "Everything looks great. The placenta looks strong. The heartbeat is spot-on. The baby's growth is right where it should be for 26 weeks. And now for the news that you've been waiting for." Bo smiled at Nora and kissed her gently. "It looks like in about 10 weeks you will be having a ….."
THE END
A/N - Should someone want to continue from here, feel free. I totally overtook Cathy's (hummingbird) idea of a shared story so maybe someone can jump on. And if not, hopefully you have another idea in mind to share.
