Chapter Twenty-Four
September, 1944
By the time you read this letter I'll be gone
I'm not the man I was when I left home
By the time you see my face I will have aged
Much more than the passing of the days
This many miles might as well be the moon
It's a desolate place and I'm missing you...
Bo was barely conscious as he was lain on the gurney and transported through the showering shells to the temporary army hospital. He breathed an imperceptible “Red…” from his lips.
My heart can't believe what my eyes they have seen
God knows what's pulling us through...
In a world gone insane, I've whispered your name
I'm missing you...

Nora was tired after a very long day. She took a long bath, put on one of Bo’s old shirts for pajamas, and curled up with his pillow. She missed him incredibly…on this day she felt the distance more than ever. She ran her hand softly over her abdomen thinking of the baby that was growing inside her...Bo’s baby. Tears began again...this time she didn’t fight them, but let them fall.
Sometimes in the quiet of the night
I reach for you as if you're by my side
When everything around me seems all gone
The thought of holding you keeps me hanging on
This many miles might as well be the moon
It's a desolate place and I'm missing you...
My heart can't believe what my eyes they have seen
God knows what's pulling us through...
In a world gone insane, I've whispered your name
I'm missing you...
“I miss you, Sweetheart,” Nora whispered. “Come home to us…”
