Hillary and Robert Talk OLTL!
Paos Revolution was fortunate to be included in a conference call today with One Life to Live's Hillary B. Smith and Robert S. Woods. Below are some tidbits that they would like to share with the fans:
One Favorite Moment:
Robert- My favorite was when I got the call and they offered me the role.
Hillary- My favorite was the first wedding to Bo with Little Richard. Nobody knew that Little Richard had to leave early. They shot all of his scenes before he had to leave and then the stage manager actually married them.
Airing on OWN:
Bob- Means a lot to me. Oprah used to watch the show. I think it's great that if someone doesn't have a computer they have cable and can watch it too. I think it's great that we have the 3:00 PM timeslot. Poor Katie Couric- I hope we bury her! I find it neat that I can watch on my phone. What's so funny is that we're so far away in filming I keep waiting for scenes that are further down the line.
Hillary- I think it is great that we are taking over the old GH timeslot. People are still looking for a soap at 3:00 PM. It's going to bring eyeballs to OWN, going to bring eyeballs to TOLN. People want their stories. I think it was cost prohibitive for Oprah to take on the production costs but to syndicate it is another story. It's exciting. I hope it's very successful online and on OWN as it would be sweet vindication.
Return of Bo and Nora:
Robert- They are writing the couple the way they made fans like them. They put the fun back into the couple. It's cool!
Hillary- We are the luckiest of the reboot. You can get weighed down by the stories and the past. We've gotten a clean slate. We just kinda get to play. The first day we drank wine, got naked, and had sex. Can't get better than that. (Robert chimed in, "Then we headed to set.").
The Character of Matthew:
Robert- We're giving him space and also trying to manipulate him.
Hillary- I like that we're letting him be. It adds such depth and dimension.
Cursing:
Hillary- I don't think people walk around cursing all the time. If it is appropriate that's one thing.
Robert- I don't think you will see as much language anymore. The language in real life today is different than it was years ago though. But cursing on the show isn't necessary.
Courtroom:
Hillary- I am enjoying the break from doing courtroom scenes. I'm loving the Bo and Nora scenes and the Night Bird storyline. I hope that when the storyline goes to the courtroom it does with a purpose.
Signing On:
Robert- I asked who was coming back and was thrilled at the list of names. When it was originally going to go online right when it went off I was going to retire but after the time off I was rested and ready to go again. It's still hard though- lots of lines to learn to do so many lines a day.
Hillary- I asked if Woodsie was coming and they said yes. Filming has been a little odd because we had to film characters out so we are way out of sequence in filming. I would like to get back to shooting whole storylines in a 5 week session.
Filming Schedule:
Robert- The break is nice but I find myself ready to go back.
Hillary- I'm using my time off to the fullest but keep thinking about going back to work.
Breaking Up Bo and Nora:
Hillary- I would be upset if they broke us up.
Robert- It's really easy between the two of us. I don't think that they are going to mess with it like they've done in the past.
Faux Bo From the 80's:
Robert- Faux Bo was fun! I actually did a fight with myself which was fun.
Union Dispute:
Robert- When we were leaving set I was thinking what should I take? Should I take everything? I had a feeling that we'd be back.
Hillary- I grabbed everything in my dressing room that had value. I wasn't sure how this was going to play out. A part of me went this can't happen again and another part of me said well it could. The last scene we did I got up before we shot it and said to everyone that it has been an honor and privilege. We are a family. Then we shot the scene and got done at 10:15 and had to be out of the studio by 11:00 AM.
Writing Change:
Hillary- I've been ecstatic as to how they've written me to this point.
Robert- Anytime you have something like that you have changes. Jenn won't let it get too far off track though.
OLTL Not Winning Best Show at the Daytime Emmy's:
Hillary- It's political and OLTL had no support. It would have been awkward for ABC if OLTL had won.
Daytime Emmy Awards:
Robert- Wish they'd bring them back to the Radio City Music Hall.
Robert and Hillary- Wow, we are going to be eligible next year? That's great!
