Finally! A babydog update

It's been almost a year since Tehya's Addison's crisis almost killed her. We've been fighting ever since to get her truly stablized. She's been doing quite well, but we could never get her electrolytes to balance. Her sodium levels have always been low, her potassium just a bit high. We've changed her medication dosage; I add salt to everything she eats; she's had bloodwork as frequently as weekly. Tehya is a drama queen about needles. Carries on like she's being killed! Only one tech, who only works part-time, can get blood from her without a major scene. Tehya won't tolerate a tourniquet, alcohol or having a spot shaved! You have to be able to find a vein on the first try and without assistance or it gets ugly! It's a skill not many techs have! Sandi can never go on vacation or change jobs! |
Last week, Tehya had more blood work. Candace was out of town for a few days so we didn't get the results til last night. To quote the doc, "holy crap, I think we've finally got it"...all her electrolytes are in the normal range. Sodium on the lower end, but still normal. Potassium right in the middle!
No more tests for 6 months, unless she shows any concerning symptoms. No drug changes, just keep doing what we've been doing.
50 weeks later, Addison's Disease officially under control!
We celebrated with some snuggles!

you have to find the courage to live it.
