Tribute to the work started by Mr. Joeseph Lucero and continued by On/Off kennel, Greece. Also to all of those who have helped and supported the development of these dogs; John Marvos, Sammy Holloway, Luciano Olivia, The Zapporelli's, Tom Ritchie (RIP), Mario Governale (Thunderdome), through to those in Greece; George Karavis, and of course: Stelios Sdrolias who keeps this line of dogs alive with the same passion and determination as those before him, which is why he was chosen to help carry the torch.
This video highlights the very point of these dogs and exactly why the kennel name On/Off was chosen; these dogs by their very nature are designed to exhibit that typical Englisht temperament later described by Moseley in his overview of the old Bandogge/Bandog/Game Keeper's Night Dog/Bull & Mastiff that went on to become the KC Bullmastiff: "Faithful and Fearless but not Ferocious. Big enough to be powerful but not too big to be active" ...In other words that happily lives in repose, care-free, even clown-like with loved ones, safe around children and non-threatening individuals, will accept invited guests, but responds accordingly and increasingly escalates that response to any threat, whereupon once peace is restored, the dog readily returns to its former state, forgiving, as if nothing happened and glad to be back, interacting with their family.
Nice video! It was a nice trip down memory lane to see Jaws in the video, and Joe too, as well Tom R.
I had the pleasure of keeping/working Jaws for awhile after we all returned from the "K9 ProSports" competiton waaaay back many years ago. I still laugh when I think of the PANIC in Joe's voice when trying to direct Jaws to the decoy rather than the judge
Jaws was a super cool dog, unreal athelete, dead serious, willing worker, but he didn't screw around when it came time to work, that dog would HURT someone and do it with a smile on that big fat face of his ...Jaws face, not Joe's
Nice Tribute Dan... I Really like some of those dogs. Floyd and Muggsy and of coarse Jaws. I might have some old footage of Jaws from the mid 90's that I shot on 8 mm ... Joe and Sammy working him at an AB comp in Fresno. Anyone know what ever happened to Sammy Holloway? He was ALWAYs cool to me and went out of his way to help me with my education / foundation in the Bandogs. Good memories in those videos... I hope the Lucero Line is still kicking ass... E
Sammy was a pretty cool dude He also competed at the K9 Prosport trial with his young male. He wanted to get his own Bandogge Mastiff breeding program going, not sure what ever happened to him.
If you talk to Joe E-Dog, ask him if he remembers when Jaws worked on Lamont when he wore my Demanet trial jacket
I'm sure he will, I'm sure the whole neighborhood still remembers those screams
