I don't know how things escalated into this, but I think I'm always getting dragged into this somehow because I posted the videos of training from start to finish. It's not just MaTi who didn't agree with the training. There were a lot of people. It's a matter of old school vs. new school. Me? I look at it all from a non judgmental standpoint and that there are a million ways to accomplish the same thing. I have personally learned a lot from the training. I have nothing bad to say about the results of the training... Savannah still does some impressive obedience and I haven't put an e-collar on her since the day of the trial. |
In 20 years, you're not going to see this kind of old school training that Dom does. With the way society is evolving, it would surprise me if training like this couldn't land a person in jail in 20 years. It's going the way of Koehler. Replaced with kinder, gentler and more progressive methods. Is this part of a weakening of our dogs like Cath used to always talk about? A kindler, gentler society has weakened people so, maybe. Is Dom the only one who trains like this? No, absolutely not. There's a guy named Lou in California who is ex LAPD, and from his descriptions, he trains in a similar manner. Then there's the guy in Vegas, Fred somebody or other, who trains almost exclusively with the e-collar also. There are others, but those two are the most well known.
Dom, I think what got a lot of people riled was the explanation of the "pain stimulation" stuff... There are people who are going to get something out of your training. People who are going to love the training for the fast results, and people who are going to be horrified about the training because of the heavy e-collar use. MaTi is apparently one of them. I've privated up my videos because I don't want to do anything to hurt the image of the e-collar, or protection training and it's clear how societies views are changing. You especially know Dom, after everything you've been through down in PA.
Dom, going to Hawaii to confront Mati is nuts with all that Hawaii has to offer. Though if I wanted to end up in jail, I suppose Hawaii would be a cool enough place to have to experience it, lol With societies views changing, you're going to have to expect MaTi's style of confronting the merits of the training. I'm sure this is something that Koehler had to experience towards the end of his training also... MaTi is west coast, and the west coast is at the cutting edge of all that's new and healthy, from people to dogs. I don't think it's personal. There's merit to what they say about the bond between dog and handler, their west coast methods and even Jon's Midwest methods... Not that your training doesn't accomplish impressive results too. Perspectives are just changing on how to accomplish things. Years ago I read this AKC training book by Ruth (I forget her last name). This was a show dog lady from the 1920's and her CD training methods were so horrifyingly abusive that it would have curled even your hair, Dom. This was a SHOW DOG lady!! It's the nature of society. We're always evolving...
I'm not mad about anything. I'm not a grudge holder. I don't even have a grudge for the whole trial thing I'm just not into the dog scene thing anymore. Oh, and that Times Square video WAS kick ass
Hope everyone's well If anyone ever needs to get a hold of me and you lost my number it's 631.772.2289. I'm not going to be home later Dom, and I would hate to see you waste gas with prices over $4 per gallon
