I just saw this dude work a dog and he said he trained dogs for 20 years. Wow. What a waste of time. frigging dog could not even down. Down for me, is down and stay down....no matter if the world is coming to an end1
Now lets see a guy like Yogi Zank. I believe he won the Bundesiger (German GSD championships) with 8 years of training.
Its talent. Yes. But its like what Ceasar Rodriges (last american ace - fighter pilot) says. You don't need talent. "Just an absolute committment and FOCUS to improve. Discipline, focus, and hunger to improve with apprenticeship will give you mastery."
He is bang on. You don't need to be a golden boy as he puts it. You don't need talent. You need focused discipline to improve.
I find it interesting that many apprentice programs for trades or arts take 5-8 years to master, with focused training. Why would dog training be any different?
Now, I hear this term "master dog trainer" all the time. hmmmmm. Really? Master? Yes, that is the same dude that could not get his dog to down. And down does not mean down for awhile and move around because there is a distraction LOL.
