personally, i think if the dog you own suits your needs, then that's all one needs....i own dogs that are versatile and can do it 'all'..home and personal protection..security work..and sport work..the most important role they also fill is that of a companion..my dogs are not ever the 'best' at everything..but they can sure as hell hang in there and hold their own
they give me their all...i can't ask for more than that..
i don't ask anyone else to feed what i own, nor whether they think the dog is good or not. i have my dogs for *me* and no one else...now..with that said...that doesn't mean a dog is breed worthy because it barks when someone comes in the yard either..
