ahhh well..ok. well. thanks.
he's not perfect. he won't be..but then..i'm not perfect either..so it's a good team..he's a lot of fun to train..quick..happy and more drive than you know how to use up in any phase..tracking is coming along..he is settling in now and working at a more comfortable pace (for me!)..he's realizing it is not a timed nor a speed event..obedience is fun..he is the type that pushes you to do more more more..he makes an adequate handler like me look really talented
he has had the last two sessions of bitework as 'freebies'
we had put a boatload of pressure on him for control over 3 previous sessions..not really my plan..just how it happened..i had some issues with him wanting to just bite the shit out of anyone that walked within range because hey..thats fun right?..not so little bastard is just full of himself..something special about a dog that wags his tail and almost smiles while he nails someone....so..we are building him back up to what he was.. sans the indiscriminate biting
as for the helper telling him what to do? again..not my preference..but..out of respect to my helper..he trains with a load of novices with low to almost no drive dogs..so he pretty much has to train both the dog AND them..so...old habits die hard i guess... i've found over the years you have to roll with the punches and pick your battles..good helper work is HARD to find.. and we had to work through some issues both he and i had before we could reach some peace and be able to train as a team..not just a pissed off handler and a pissed off helper
the plan is to go back to the basics next session..post work..me walking in and out..he has some handler sensitivity issues..again..i created..so..we'll get that fixed and get him back to the center in his barking too..but this weekend was simply stress relief and fun for him..and me
