If we talk softly but carry a big correction stick, we teach them (dog or child) that we do not have to raise our voices to them, in order to mean business.
When that OH SHIT moment arrives and we see that truck bumper coming. We raise our voice to them, and they think the world has ended, and come crashing around their ears.
Loosing our temper with dog or child, just causes US more trouble in the long run. Sometimes it seems like they beg us to get mad. Who is supposed to be the smart one?
Our anger at them is the BEST way to crash our plans!
With our focus on talking softly, it helps focus on not getting angry at a stupid dog, for being a stupid dog.
