Senior Final Four (No Particular Order):
This year I saw multiple teams that could be contenders for a Final 4 and it was hard to narrow it down. But after reviewing history and trends I see the following as my Final 4 predictions:
1. Hutto Hippos – Even though I saw multiple players and coaches leave for new teams, its hard not to think Hutto won’t be in this position again. The Hippos have made the Final 4 the last 2 years.
2. Kyle Invaders – It’s been a long road back for the invaders since the scandal in 2017 but they are on the right track now. The Invaders had a strong finish last season with a 5-3 record and ranked #5. If the core guys are back, then I believe they could get over the hump and get into the Final 4.
3. Leander Wolfpack – Leander currently has an 8 game winning streak, I do not include post season, which is tied for 1st place in the Senior Division. The Wolfpack had a great bounce back last year and fell in the playoffs to North Austin (Pflugerville). They will have a chip on their shoulder, which I believe will carry them into the Final 4.
4. Pflugerville Force – Last Season as the North Austin Mavericks pulled the upset in the post season and walked away with the CTYFL Championship. New Location, New Look, New Players along with old players, could keep them in the running to defend their championship. They currently have the longest Playoff streak in the Senior Division at 3 years in a row.
The Crying Position – Bastrop Bears – Bastrop does have an 8 game winning streak, but history is not on the Bears side. Bastrop has had 1 good season but that’s not enough to convince me they could do it back to back.
Junior Final Four (No Particular Order):
The Junior Division should have about 6 contenders for a Final 4. This season should be fun to watch. It was once again hard to narrow it down to 4 but I got it done.
1. Del Valle Cardinals – Had a great season last season and they get new players from a very good rookie team as well. I was impressed by the coaching staff for the Cardinals last season and that gives me confidence that they could make them a Final 4 team.
2. Elgin Wildcats Purple– The Wildcats will field 2 teams. This could dilute the talent pool, but Elgin has a great history in the Junior division. Why did I choose Purple? No clue I randomly picked 1 of the Elgin teams. Rather Elgin Purple or Elgin Black 1 of those teams has a chance to make it in the Final 4.
3. Georgetown Texans – Now I was a little reluctant picking Georgetown. From what I can see it will not have the core players from last season nor the coaching staff from the Junior or Rookie from last season. I think there might be enough meat on the bone to give them just enough to back door into the Final 4 but I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t.
4. Hutto Hippo Gray – Hutto has lost players and coaches to another association but was still able to field 2 teams. Hutto has always been a contender and I don’t see this changing especially since Hutto had a great Rookie team that could help get them where they need to be. Again why did I pick Grey? No clue, I just picked 1 of the teams by random.
The Crying Positions – Leander Wolfpack – I feel Leander is competitive on all levels. Their schedule seems to be in their favor. The Wolfpack could upset some teams and even ruin some teams’ chances of getting into the Final 4. I just don’t see them outdoing my Final 4 picks.
Rookie Final Four (No Particular Order):
The 2022 season there was 5 teams playing for a Final 4 spot. This season is set to be in the same situation. The Rookies was again hard to narrow down, but I think I got it.
1. Del Valle Cardinals – Del Valle had a great 2022 season and the whole organization seems to be coached well. They finished in the Crying position last season and this season they are looking to get into the Final 4. They have the talent, coaches, and fans to make it.
2. Georgetown Texans – Last Season the Texans put together a season they hadn’t had in a long time and made the playoffs. This season they will be without the coaches and core players. I believe there is enough talent to keep Georgetown in the running if coached properly.
3. Hutto Hippos – The Hippos have a 2 year playoff streak going into the 2023 season. Hutto is a team that can turn it on year in and year out. Even with coaches and players leaving for other teams they should be contending again.
4. Round Rock Tigers – Just like Hutto they lost coaches and players but there is enough talent in Round Rock to keep in them in the mix.
Crying Positions - Leander Wolfpack - they are rebuilding a team that was very tough but didn't have enough players. If they have players then they could upset someteams.
Pee Wee Final Four (No Particular Order):
There are only 3 teams in this division so I will predict the Championship game only. It’s a toss-up but I feel confidence in this choice:
Bastrop Bears vs Pflugerville Force
