Bastrop – Last Year the Bears fielded 2 teams that finished 4 and 12 in rankings. On average Bastrop finishes 3-4 and ranked 10. The Bears have been contenders 5 out of the last 7 years. The Rookies they will gain could keep them contending. So, mark them down as a contender/bubble team.
Cedar Creek – Last season the Eagles tied for the most wins in their short history in CTYFL with a 3-5 record and ranked 10. That is major improvement for them, and I hope they can build off that and get that 4 win this season. Unfortunately, I don’t think they will come close to a top four spot, but that 4th win should be their goal.
Del Valle – The Cardinals had a great Junior season in the spring finishing 6-2 but that was 7 on 7. Tackle is a different beast. This does give me hope that they have talent on this level. I believe it will be a stretch, but I could see them as a low Final 4 contender. It will take a lot for them to do it but it can be done.
East Austin – Last Season the Panthers seem to not even show up. Between the 8-11 year old players they had last season, they only put up 6 points and gave up 384 points between 2 teams in only 4 games each. The Panthers have a lot of work to do to compete in CTYFL.
Elgin – Last season the Wildcats finished 3-5 and ranked 7. On average Elgin finishes 4-4 and ranked 10. I was thinking with Manor moving to play and travel in AAU Players and talent might opt out and move to another team. Elgin is right down the road. I am going out on a limb and will assume that happens. That could be what Elgin needs to get over the hump and get them to contend for a final 4 spot.
Georgetown – Last season the Texans finished 2-6 and ranked 9. On average Georgetown finishes 4-3 and ranked 8. The Texans looks to be on the down swing in the Junior division. I don’t see much change from last year. Hopefully the players they get from the Rookie team can get them over the hump. Until we see them compete at this level, they are not considered to be contenders/bubble team.
Hutto – last season the Hippos finished 6-2 and ranked 5. On average Hutto finishes 5-3 and ranked 9. With no more Manor and no more Faith Academy, the stage is set for Hutto to step up and take charge in this division. Hutto gets to rebuild with players from a very good Rookie team. It is easy to say that the Hippos are contenders for a final 4 spot.
Jarrell – The Cougars are up for a treat in this division. The Junior division is very competitive, and they could get run off the field quick. This will be a learning year for them.
Kyle – Last season the Invaders finished 3-5 and ranked 8. On average Kyle finishes 4-4 and ranked 10. There isn’t much to build on with the players coming from the Rookie division. Though improving from the 3-5 record is possible I don’t see them contending.
Leander – Last season Leander finished 4-4 and ranked 6. On average Leander finishes 4-2 and ranked 5. I know this is only the 3rd year for them I believe they can keep this momentum up and keep contending for a Final 4 Spot.
North Austin – Last Season The U… I mean the Mavs (just playing) finished 8-0 and ranked 1. They are the defending CTYFL Junior Champions! On average North Austin finishes 3-5 and rank 11. North Austin was infested with Unity last season. It did pay off with them getting the championship. I am still going to consider them contenders only based on the fact they are defending champions. After hearing from Mavs Coach they seem to be on its way back to being a fully loaded organization again without Unity.
Round Rock – Last season Round Rock finished 1-7 and ranked 11. On average the Tigers finishes 3-5 and ranked 11. They have the possibility to contend with the players coming from the Rookie team. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I don’t see them contending but I wouldn’t be surprised if they bounce back strong and at least break their 5 game losing streak.
SAO – Last season SAO finished 0-4 and ranked last at 13. The Scorpions were unable to keep fielding a team and folded. On average SAO finishes 2-5 and ranked 12. It is a struggle for the Scorpions to field a team and I don’t see this changing. If they field a team, I don’t see them contending. I would say this is by far the fasted fall from grace for any team. They finished undefeated and CTYFL champions in 2020 to winless and folding in 2021.
Unity – Last season, Unity fielded a TYFA Junior team which is 11-10 year olds. This team finished 6-2 and shut out 5 out of 8 teams. They now get to break off from North Austin and compete in CTYFL. I see them contending for a Final 4 spot.
The Junior division will be interesting to watch to see who emerges as contenders. To sum up I have Bastrop, Del Valle, Elgin, Hutto, Leander, North Austin and Unity as contenders/bubble teams. Once I get my hands on an official schedule to see who has teams then I post my pre-season Final 4 predictions along with week 1 predictions!!
