Bastrop – Last Season the Bears fielded 2 teams which finished 4 and 5 in the Rankings. On average Bastrop usually finishes 4-4 and ranked 6 (this is using stats from 2015 thru 2021). This past Spring Bastrop fielded 2 teams that finished 4-4, as well. They do have the longest winning streak in Pee Wee Flag (not including post-season) with 3 wins. The Bears usually has 1 team competing for a Final 4 spot, I believe this trend will continue.
Cedar Creek – Last Season the Eagles finished in last place with a 0-7-1 record. On average, Cedar Creek usually finished 2-6-1 and ranked 10. They didn’t field any team in spring in this division. When looking at this division I don’t see much change happening. Currently the Eagles have the second longest losing streak in Pee Wee Flag with 8. I see they do improve from a winless season but not enough to be considered a contender and/or a bubble team.
Del Valle – Del Valle is new to CTYFL and this past spring they won the CTYFL championship. That was a great way to make a statement, but the fall season is way harder to come out on top. I do see good things from the Cardinals, and I feel comfortable deeming them a contender/bubble team.
East Austin – The Panthers enters CTYFL from TYFA. Looking at what they did last season the finished 1-7 with 5 forfeits. That 1 win was against Unity 20-12. I don’t see East Austin will be much of an issue for CTYFL if they can’t complete a season.
Elgin – Last season Elgin improved to 3-5 from the 0-6 from 2020. This past spring the Wildcats finished 0-8. On average, the Wildcats finish 2-6 and ranked 11. Elgin hasn’t come close to the playoffs since 2017. I don’t have much confidence in Elgin, as I see them probably having a repeat of last year.
Georgetown – Last Season Georgetown fielded 2 teams that had 1 decent team and 1 not so decent team. On average The Texans finish 4-3 and ranked 7. For the last 4 years Georgetown have been contenders for a final 4 spot. Can they make it 5 years contending for a Final 4 spot? Looking at what they did in spring I see them being a contender/bubble team.
Hutto – The Hippos have not fielded a team since 2019. On average Hutto finished 4-4 and ranked 9. The Hippos usually has 1 team in each division contending for a final 4 spot. Even though Hutto hasn’t fielded a team in a few years, I can see them contending for a final 4 spot if they field a team. Mark them down as a bubble team.
Jarrell – The Cougars joins CTYFL this season. There is a lot of unknowns here. Can they duplicate what Del Valle has done in this division? Time will tell. I feel we won’t know what type of contenders until week 3. Until we see them on the field, I wouldn’t consider them contenders
Kyle – Last season, the Invaders finished 1-7 and ranked 9 out of 10. In the spring they also finished 1-7. On average Kyle finishes 4-4 and ranked 9. There is not much to grow on when you haven’t had a winning record since 2017. I don’t have them anywhere near being a contender/bubble this season.
Leander – Last Season Leander fielded their first Pee Wee flag team and finished 5-3 and ranked 3. They skipped the spring season. Last season I picked them as a final 4 team, and they finished in the top 4. That was a great way to build a foundation and I see them keeping the momentum as a contender/bubble team.
North Austin – The Mavericks hasn’t fielded a team since 2017. They currently still hold for the longest active losing streak in the Pee Wee flag division, which stands at 16 games. As North Austin is failing to field teams, I hope they will field a team in this division but that would be a miracle.
Round Rock – The Tigers hasn’t fielded a Pee Wee flag team since 2017. On average Round Rock finishes 5-3 and ranked 8. If Round Rock was to field a team maybe they could contend but since the chances of that happening is slim to none then the Tigers will not be in the conversation.
SAO – The Scorpions have not fielded a team since 2018. SAO averages 4-3 a season and ranked 6. I wonder if SAO will even field teams this season. I don’t see any competition coming from South Austin. I would consider them at the bottom of the standings if they do field a team.
Unity – Somewhat New to CTYFL as they have officially left TYFA for CTYFL. As I look at what they did last fall in the flag division, they finished 1-7. This might be the weak link for Unity as I do see them doing better but not contending for a Final 4 yet
Now to sum up my contenders/bubble teams, I have Bastrop, Del Valle, Georgetown, Hutto and Leander. If each team does field a team this will be a race to the finish. Once I get my hands on an official schedule to see who has teams then I post my official Final 4 predictions along with week 1 predictions!! Let the fun begin!
