In my research/refresher I noticed the landscape of CTYFL has had major changes. I just wanted to address some of these changes and give you a kind of state of the union post. So, let’s jump right on into what I have discovered.
Leander Lions has switched to the Leander Wolfpack. Not much to say about it but I had to at least mention it.
Manor Mustang said Goodbye to CTYFL for Texas AAU. The last few years Manor has built one of, if not, the best foundation in CTYFL as their Pee Wee program has won multiple CTYFL championship in flag and tackle. I would have loved to see that carry over to the other division and really rebuild the organization from top to bottom. They leave with an overall record of 89-68 in tackle and 62-38 in flag since 2015. I went and looked at Texas AAU and all I can say is good luck. From what I can see they are a growing force in Youth Football and may overtake TYFA as the best leagues out there.
Faith Academy Panthers are sitting out the 2022 season. This will open the door for other teams to grab that brass ring. The last time an organization said they are sitting out a season and will be back…. Never came back. Come to think of it… Faith Academy vs Cap City would be great to see. Hopefully they come back for the 2023 season or at least some form of reboot to the organization.
East Austin Panthers leaves TYFA and joins CTYFL. From what I can tell with the limited information I have is that they forfeited half their games last year. I don’t know what to expect from them this season, but I hope they completed the season and don’t forfeit any games.
Jarrell Cougars joins CTYFL and from what I can tell this is a NEW Jarrell youth football team. This will be another mystery as I don’t know how they will do but with Georgetown right down the road that could be a start of a great rivalry.
Unity has joined CTYFL. Was that a wise choice for CTYFL? Why would they let an organization in that is a select team and that will also have teams playing for Texas AAU? I guess we are about to find out but who am I to judge they might have valid reason to let them in.
Austin Steelers won’t be in CTYFL they have accepted a place with Texas AAU, after rumors that they wanted to join CTYFL. I don’t know if they ever really considered CTYFL and didn’t see anything about it on any Steelers pages or CTYFL Pages.
Varsity football seems to have stayed alive in the offseason. So, it will be interesting to see how many organizations field a team this season. I wasn’t a fan last season, and the stats are not good either. If it stays around then it will take a few years to get a proper look.
If I missed something, Please let us know!
