Strangers in Egypt
The Bible, in Genesis 46, reveals the names of 66 people who were direct descendants of Israel (Jacob) who migrated to Egypt. If we include Joseph and his two sons already in Egypt, plus Jacob himself in Canaan, this number rises to 70.
Jacob, eleven of his sons and one daughter, along with forty-nine grandsons, one granddaughter, and four great grandsons, are listed as making the trip. These four generations had to endure famine conditions as they made their long journey to their new home!
There were, however, many more who migrated to Egypt than the Bible lists. Jacob's surviving mates, the wives of his sons and grandsons, as well as any slaves, were not including in Genesis 46's counts.
