Why should the teams give a crap about the $outhland? Is there a reason it needs to be propped up by the Bu$ch, other than nobody really wants to play bin it?
If that is the intention, make it known in the beginning of the year that to only way to get into the Bu$ch is to play the $outhland. As those entrants say they aren't playing the Bu$ch, you open another slot. Any $outhland team that hasn't paid and entered the Bu$ch by mid May is SOL.
You started a tournament to make $$$. That is cool just don't act like you are being benevolent to eastern Arkansas. You would get a lot more support if the honest answer of "for the additional $$$" was given. Nobody wants to be pissed on and told it is rain. I am ALL FOR you making $$$ because these things are a lot of work, but just honestly level with everyone.
It has never been said how many spots are being held, and in which divisions? If 24 teams enter $outhland and all want to get into the Bu$ch, do they all get in?
It sounds better to say there are "X" guaranteed entries into each division available to teams that enter, on a FCFS basis. That way the next "X" number of teams on the list can have an idea of whether or not they need to make alternate plans - which most already have by Memorial Day.
