In the late 18 hundreds a US Navy ship The Portsmouth docked in Southern England not far from where I live. Can anyone shed light on this voyage?

If you want adventure read the history of this amazing ship. Built in 1843 it was in constant use until the end of the century. But I still can't find out why it found itself 20 miles from my own backyard here in England. Bob Taylor
