My father (John B. Will) will be celebrating his 100th birthday this August - and he's in great health! We'd like to put together some kind of record of his service with the Merchant Marine as ship doctor/purser in the Pacific theater - including the Liberty ships on which he served. I have no idea how to do this and would greatly appreciate any help. Pictures, uniforms etc.

You should be able to get Merchant Mariner records including CG 718A Discharge records from each ship from the National Maritime Center. Try www.uscg.mil/nmc and select record requests. I got all mine 3 years ago. Hope this helps Paul AMMV

I congratulate your father on his long lived life. I'm sorry I didn't find this in time for his birthday. I have just scanned my father's photos from his service in the Armed Guard for merchant marine ships, he served on three Liberty ships. He was in the Atlantic and Mediteranean. He was on the Paul Chandler during the spring, summer, fall of 45. contact me if you are interested. I also wrote up my father's memories that he left. Linnette GArber LINDYKNITS@outlook.com
